Latest project: garden murals

That’s a wrap… A letterbox mural featuring Australian native birds that regularly visit the garden and surrounds; and on the same property a wall mural depicting an Edna Walling style garden, complete with a representation of the landscape designer herself, her dog, visiting children and ever present birds. What a privilege to be commissioned this and allowed artistic freedom… the chance to try this trompe l’oeil hole in the wall effect to reveal the hidden garden within this house’s beautiful real-life garden. The bricks are a nod to the original house bricks and some plants modelled from those growing around the wall. The birds chosen from those seen visiting the garden recently… Eastern Spinebill, Rufous fantail, Grey fantail and Black-cockatoos flying overhead. What you can’t hear is surrounding garden full of bird-song … kookaburras, parrots, currawongs, magpies and thornbills to name a few. Needless to say, it was a treat to work there.

Birds featured on the letterbox include Eastern Spinebill, Grey Fantail, Rainbow Lorikeet, King Parrot, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, Laughing Kookaburra, Magpie and Crimson Rosella.

JOY 40cm x 40cm Exhibition

UPDATE: SOLD

Currently exhibiting this painting at Wyreena Community Arts Centre from 16 November 2022 to 4 February 2023. This group exhibition showcases emerging, mid-career and mature artists from a variety of mediums whose work measures 40cm x 40cm. All works are for sale and address the theme of ‘Joy’.

Naturophilia / Joanne Everard / acrylic on canvas 40cm x 40cm
Artist Statement: (naturophilia: the state or experience of a strong attraction or affinity to nature, nature loving) The aim with this artwork was to express the joy I find in nature and in my busy, messy garden. Using plenty of artistic license, I allowed myself time to enjoy creating a looser style of artwork without a plan; a step away from my usual, detailed, pencil illustrations.

___________________________

Grey-headed flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) are a vulnerable species and are tired of being blamed for being a pest in our backyards, for eating from our fruiting trees. Their forest habitats are being cleared, so they have no other choice.
The Grey-headed Flying-Fox, also known as the Grey-headed Fruit-bat, is one of the largest bats in the world. It’s primary food source is blossom from Eucalyptus but in some areas it also utilises a wide range of rainforest fruits.
Flying foxes play a major role in the regeneration of forests by pollinating as they feed and dispersing seeds as they move throughout the forest.

FAQ: Calendar for 2022?

A Jo’s Desktop Calendar for 2022 ??

I’m afraid not.

Unfortunately I haven’t managed to put together a 2022 calendar this year.

I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy and put my time to some other projects instead like..

- street art painting (to be continued)

- corporate commissions (revealed soon)

- portrait commissions

- freelance desktop publishing and illustration

And between those projects during these weird times we’re in, I’ve tried to slow down, rest and delve into some personal development type art work (like the current Inktober #gulasadventure series).

I’ve had a pretty good run of calendars… as you can see for at least 7 years. And I’m Very grateful for the interest and purchases of them over the years. .. especially those who’ve returned year after year to collect one for themselves or their overseas friends and families. (Apologies if you’ve been waiting for next years to be released).

Stay tuned though… maybe I’ll return to calendars next year with a bigger better one for 2023.

For your 2022 calendar, may I suggest you support one of the many Australian wildlife and environmental charities. Here’s a few suggestions; organisation’s that I like to support, that have calendars ready now

or might have very soon…

Australian Wildlife Conservancy

The Wilderness Society

Project Numbat

WIRES

Keep an eye on my social media stories as I’ll share any others that I see with calendars available. And be sure to let me know if you have or see a great charity calendar.

Cheers, Joanne
