A Greater Glider peers through the bare page, questioning the viewer. The direct gaze searching for anwers... why is it's habitat decling? Why is its species endangered?
The vulnerable Greater Glider amongst other species are under significant threat due to the logging of old growth forests. Many wildlife species spend time in tree hollow dens, with the Greater Glider using several throughout its range. This makes the extent of logging in our forests deeply concerning. Ironically, the felled trees are used for paper products... this page perhaps?
I find myself conflicted as an artist.. with a passion for preserving Australian wildlife and environment, yet I work predominantly with paper. I try to negate some of this hypocricy by creating endearing images of animals, with the hope my art will help the viewer create a connection to and grow awareness of, nature's diversity and intrinsicvalue.
